Child Custody

At Lewicky, O’Connor, Hunt & Meiser, children are a priority and our attorneys understand the importance of handling child custody matters with the care and attention that they deserve. Our attorneys help families resolve child custody disputes ranging from an initial child custody determination or agreement associated with physical and/or legal custody of a minor child, to modifications of prior custody orders or agreements. Resolutions are reached through the drafting of a negotiated custody/parenting settlement agreement, mediation and/or through contested litigation. We also assist our clients with determining an appropriate access/visitation schedule based on the age(s) of the minor child(ren) and their specific needs. Once a child custody court order has been issued or an agreement has been reached, our attorneys also represent clients seeking to enforce agreements due to non-compliance. As part of the custody matter, we also advise our clients on matters related to child support.

Adoption

We help families with adoptions in the State of Maryland through drafting the appropriate petition to be filed with the court, assisting with the gathering of pertinent documentation and exhibits, hearing preparation and representation at the adoption hearing.  Our attorneys have experience representing individuals seeking to adopt a child placed in foster care through the local Departments of Social Services, as well as through private third-party adoptions, such as step-parent and grandparent or relative adoptions.  In addition, our attorneys advise birth parents who are considering terminating their parental rights.
